The streetwear style has gone from being only worn by skating communities and rap communities, to being a mainstream fashion trend and has been included in all different fashion types all across the world.
From clothing items like hoodies, to camo stacked jeans, they’re now a mainstay in the fashion industry with numerous different designers incorporating its style into their own new ideas and outfits.
The thing about streetwear, is it does require anchor pieces, which are single parts of the outfit that stand out and are over the top, drawing attention to it and being a showpiece for the outfit. It can be anything in the outfit as long as it draws attention and really creates the outfit. This is why jeans are often used as this anchor point for the outfits, with a number of different types of jeans being used as anchors for outfits as they’re able to truly hold together an outfit and make it pop off.
Let’s take a look at some of the different types of jeans often used in streetwear
Stacked flares
When it comes to jeans in streetwear, denim has long been king and has been at the top of the tree for a number of years. One of the denim styles that continues to thrive to this day is stacked flares. Essentially, stacked flares have additional material around the ankle, causing it to bunch up at the bottom and give it a stacked effect. This gives the jeans more layers and texture that other jeans simply can’t offer.
The texture on the jeans offers a look that can’t be matched by any other piece of clothing and really shows off someone’s bold style. This then allows you to wear a more casual baggy hoodie with some bold sneakers and you’ve got yourself a real winner of an outfit with the jeans being the focal point and the anchor of the whole piece.
Wide-leg jeans
Once again, wide-leg jeans are making waves in the fashion world. Their bold and dramatic shape make them a great alternative to standard jeans as they’re so versatile. Depending on your style and how you like your outfits to look, wide-leg jeans are easy to style and can be a great centrepiece for your outfit. They also work really well when combining both vintage clothing with more modern pieces, allowing for an outfit that steps through generations and offers both comfort and style.
Baggy jeans
If you look back at streetwear in the 90s, you’ll see that baggy jeans were everywhere and virtually everyone in that community had a pair. Even today they’re still extremely popular, with people still including baggy jeans in their wardrobes over thirty years later.
Whilst they have had some resurgence in recent years, baggy jeans have always been popular and have been around in one way or another, however it’s only recently that they’ve once again come back to the top of the fashion tree.
Not only are they one of the most comfy pairs of jeans to wear due to them being baggy and free, they’re also extremely easy to style, with a nice quarter zip or even a baggy hoodie to compliment them will make the outfit go a long way. The baggy jeans will be the standout piece of the outfit, but the other pieces of clothing will add to the style and make them really pop.
In the world of streetwear, jeans have always been one of the most important pieces of the outfit. Regardless of the style, it was the jeans that would make or break the outfit, showing just how important they are to the style and making an outfit work.
This is why they’ve remained in style and popular to this day, and it looks like they’ll continue to do so for some time as it’s almost impossible to find something else that will match or rival them.
